Boston-based company to provide 24/7 health and fitness insights to BC student-athletes
CHESTNUT HILL, MA, October 4, 2021 — Boston College Athletics and WHOOP, the Boston-based human performance company, today announced a multi-year partnership featuring a department-wide rollout of WHOOP® wearable technology. This new partnership is a result of the success that Boston College (BC) has experienced as early adopters of WHOOP technology with the women’s soccer team and other BC student-athletes.
Personalized WHOOP insights and recommendations have helped student-athletes to improve their sleep and focus on behaviors that prioritize recovery, reduce the risk of overtraining, and enhance their performance in competition and in the classroom. Now, with the expanded use of WHOOP across teams and sports, all Boston College Athletics student-athletes, trainers, and coaches will be empowered to take control of their health and make informed decisions that enable them to reach new heights.
“We will continue to find ways to invest in technology and experiences that will benefit the welfare of our student-athletes,” said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Pat Kraft. “WHOOP brings an innovative approach to holistic training and will help our student-athletes in ways they never could have imagined. I am confident that our student-athletes and coaches will see immediate results and partnering with yet another Boston-based company brings us even closer to our community and fans.”
WHOOP is a personalized 24/7 digital fitness and health coach that helps people unlock their inner potential and optimize behavior. BC student-athletes will gain a deeper understanding of their bodies while also having the ability to opt in to a team dashboard with training staff for additional coaching.
“The idea for WHOOP was born out of my personal experience as a student-athlete looking to maximize my performance in college,” said WHOOP Founder & CEO Will Ahmed. “Today, WHOOP helps many of the best athletes and teams in the world optimize performance. We are excited to bring unparalleled insights to our neighbors at Boston College.”
Boston College Athletics and WHOOP will also collaborate on an internship program for select BC student-athletes each summer of the partnership. Additionally, WHOOP will host an exclusive BC Athletics week at WHOOP Labs in Boston, offering BC’s student-athletes the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest minds in the fields of human performance and recovery.
